Re: Finalescript glitch with Export XML
Thanks again, motet. Yes, keyboard shortcuts -- of course, and I blocked it out. Age.

Re: Finalescript glitch with Export XML
Thanks mmike and motet. mmike's solution works perfectly for bulk translation throughout the folder, and of course I am embarrassed to not have registered the command, even though I read above and below it. I tried motet's script: ============== type alt "t" type "fx" type enter ============== as is...

Re: Finalescript glitch with Export XML
Thanks, motet, but where to type these? What does
menu item "file"
menu item "Export"
menu item "MusicXML..."
button SAVE
look like after this fix?

Finalescript glitch with Export XML
Greetings! I wrote this script to alleviate some bulk processing now that Finale is getting elbowed out: ========================== menu item "file" menu item "Export" menu item "MIDI file..." button SAVE button OK menu item "file" menu item "Export" menu item "pdf..." button SAVE menu item "file" m...

Re: Importing from AI
Butt-cover 1st -- I just stumbled on Meta AI, as it appears in Whatsapp, so I thought I would try it out. It gave me a successful drawing of a monkey playing a french horn and a zebra playing a bassoon, so the next step was to see about composition. I interpret the piles of notes in its response as ...

Importing from AI
I asked Meta AI to compose a 16-measure waltz and show the sheet music. Can you figure out how to do this from its response? The last sentence says it can be done in Finale, but I don't see how. I tried. ================================= I can generate a 16-measure waltz composition, but I'm unable ...

Re: Expressions Only on One Instrument
I just stumbled in here, having long given up on getting certain expressions to duplicate down the staves. Indeed, Select Expression > Tempo Alterations > Edit Category > Score List is the magic, so thank you Anders Hedelin, and problem solved. I can't imagine what the Finale programmer was thinking...

Re: Mystery menu
Ah -- Ctrl Tab with open docs -- so much better. Now these icons are completely useless. And thanks Perotinus for Ctrl-Tab on the main screen. Alt-Tab is an old friend.

Re: Mystery menu
Actually, I wasn't looking closely enough. The other apps I opened have a logo icon, but not on the File - Edit - etc. line, rather immediately above, at the extreme top, where the name of the app also is. Only Finale (so far) has 2 icons, not the same logo, and only the one on the menu line has "Ne...

Re: Mystery menu
How insightful -- I see it on many but not all programs cluttering my computer. So now it does look like a Microsoft object. Finale's icon is actually useful, having "Next" to bring up the next open doc. How would Windows know or care about what I am doing in Finale? Maybe software makers are workin...

Re: Mystery menu
I have Windows 10. See attached screenshot -- it seems to be Finale's creation. The icon appears to be the same icon used for all Finale docs & files.

Mystery menu
I recently took notice of a mysterious drop-down menu, the farthest left symbol, next to the File menu. It contains: restore move size minimize maximize close next . . . most of whom are gray. I can't find any reference to it in the User Manual, nor does it display a name, like other symbolic menu h...

Re: Speedy exit from Finale
Yes, the process allows easily preventable errors, and it would be a valuable gesture if those flags were visible, say as red/green spots in the upper right corner near the minimize/maximize/Exit symbols, when the icons are all visible. Close-all and exit do differ at the end of the parade -- Close ...

Re: Speedy exit from Finale
Thanks, Peter. Save-all does exactly that, and all in a single key-press, but it doesn't disappear the docs. Close-all needs repeated keypresses, except that long-pressing N does it all at once. Curious discovery just now -- the User Manual has this imperfect information about Close-all: ===========...

Your "N" method is great -- I just hold the N key for a half second or so and they all go away.

Re: Speedy exit from Finale
Thanks, motet, that's what I thought & I forgot the part about the pointless saves. I have noticed though that sometimes some unchanged docs do disappear when it is their turn to get clicked. Remembering the other problem I asked about last week -- getting Playback to respond to scripts (remember "R...

Speedy exit from Finale
Sorry if this question has come up here -- I can't find it. Is there a fast way to shut down Finale when there are many docs open? I don't see any way to side-step the "Save changes to ..." dialog box. It wouldn't be so bad if the location of the dialog box didn't move left & right depending on the ...

Re: FinaleScript for Rewind
Thanks much for trying. motet. I didn't notice the counter move -- that's a sign of life, at least.
I will take this to Finale-help. It's a nice play-along practice convenience that they ought to be interested in, or just a bug in the existing software.

Re: FinaleScript for Rewind
Attached, a screen image. Same failure. I didn't want button instead of click, but the manual guided me to it, so I tried it.
As before, while the tune is playing, I click Run Script and nothing happens. When I press alt-z or alt-Z it beeps and nothing else happens.

Re: FinaleScript for Rewind
Now I am more confused than before. I revisited the command-reference page of the User Manual and found: menu item: Chooses the specified menu item. which is what I expected. It isn't about disappearing the entire Playback tool from the screen. I have used "menu item" a lot in my slim collection of ...

Re: FinaleScript for Rewind
Thanks motet, I should have looked at the fscript dictionary. When I put Rewind in quotes, it lit up like it was understood as a command. Now I see there is only "Play" in the command dictionary from Playback. Does this mean that the task can't be done with a keyboard-coded script? Or more generally...

FinaleScript for Rewind
Greetings! I want to make a FinaleScript with a keyboard shortcut that will allow me to rewind playback by a given number of measures. My 1st try, for 8-measure rewind is failing: ============================= menu item "playback controls" "Rewind" "Rewind" "Rewind" "Rewind" "Rewind" "Rewind" "Rewin...
