Re: Dorico crossgrade offer deadline?
Sorry to hear that. It went surprisingly well when I installed a few months ago after the announcement that Finale was end-of-lifed. But it is definitely more convoluted than authorizing Finale. I've installed two updates since then and both also went well. Not sure if it's a Mac vs Windows thing, s...

Re: Post-Mortem Software Support Community
How could the Finale composer community create a kind of membership-based support community which would continue to develop Finale after the activations end, developing ways to overcome the activation hurdle and overcome other types of bugs and potential viruses -- kind of like the Military's conti...

Re: Finale / Mac Compatibility Question
I'd strongly urge you to get the upgrade to Finale 27 and Dorico. It's the last chance you'll have to do so. Can I still do that? I would love to but I was under the impression that MakeMusic had suspended all sales and upgrades. I believe they updated the competitive crossgrade to include F27

Re: My choice
I have moved on. But I have a lot of experience with Finale and don't mind trying to help others, like a lot of us here in this forum.Elsewhere you said you had moved on. So why are you still here?

Re: My choice
You know there are folks at Dorico that are truly helpful with the conversion from Finale to Dorico. They are nice friendly folks that believe want to make the transition as easy as possible. MM should of had people like them. But these fanboys here and other off brand Dorico forums are not helpful...

Re: Dorico crossgrade offer deadline?
Hello all, Does anyone know how long the $149 Dorico crossgrade is being offered? Did I miss the boat? Or is there still time? Given that the demo version of Dorico is good for 60 days, the crossgrade offer should at least be good for 60 days from when MakeMusic announced that Finale was end-of-lif...

Re: My choice
Here's a link to a screenshot of a full page graphic, with two pages of music using different margins in Dorico. Do you actually want some help achieving the pages you want, or just the half-hour argument? I got my information from Dorico support itself. I will go by what they told me so, no, I don...

Re: My choice
Ben is correct-there is a default volume output that can be adjusted in the prefs. But I've not found it changes anything on my end (if I select a note, that is way loud compared with playback, since the latter is determined by the dynamics I've specified). But it's pretty easy to up the volume in t...

Re: Percussion Dorico Session
Remember that around the time of Finale 3.2, David Pogue came out with not one but three printed manuals for Finale. Each had a different purpose and all were organized differently. Dorico and other software could likely benefit from a series of detailed and well written PDFs like those old Finale m...

You could also always output the score to PDF and easily attach any number of full-sized graphics as pages. PDFExpert or Preview on the Mac handle that easily as would Adobe on macs or pcs.

Re: My choice
like two staves. A treble and bass and put thoughts or themes or ideas then copy and paste into my score. Dorico doesn't like this. It can be done it just way more difficult then it needs to be. Dorico wants you to do what Dorico wants you to do. You notice there is no drag and drop for instance. I...

Re: My choice
I absolutely second that. It's extremely helpful. At this point, I'm more fluid with Dorico after a few weeks than I was with Finale at this point back around 1990, and their online community is definitely a significant reason for that.

Re: Percussion Dorico Session
That's because they need to! My good friend, does that also mean that Finale users "need" the videos that have been graciously provided by folks like Jason Loffredo and are you perhaps implying that those people are somehow deficient? I think there's enough snark in our political divide tha...

Re: Recap And Summary Of the Virtual Machine Path Forward For Licensed Finale Owners
We’re going to get through this together. I’m operating on a couple assumptions: (6) furthermore, in terms of legality, the destruction of Finale is ANTI-competitive and thus may be a violation of United States Antitrust law. There is absolutely nothing anticompetitive about this. MakeMusic was not...

Re: Finally got F 27.4.1. for Mac!!!
Yeah, changing tempo should be pretty straightforward. Just add a new tempo marking wherever you need it. Not for auditioning/trying out different tempi for a new work to decide the speed for which the metronome marking should display. Previously, as in 3-4 years ago, one could change the playback ...

Re: Finally got F 27.4.1. for Mac!!!
consider yourself blessed. As a composer with a day job, I need something that works for me and is reliable. As Finale will no longer be subject to bug fixes or enhancements, it has served me well for over three decades but the cheese has moved, so I'm moving with the cheese. If Finale meets your ne...

Re: Finally got F 27.4.1. for Mac!!!
Not to rain on your parade, but it's not just a matter of keeping Finale around as long as possible. For me, I could easily use Finale again right now. But I won't. The last straw was when composing a pretty straightforward work still became a slog because of the usual Finale glitches that arise une...

You should not experience significant issues. Not a lot of difference between the two and they should play well together.

Re: Article on Slate about Finale's demise
Finale said they can not really produce significant updates because of the amount of legacy code. As an experienced Finale user I can only think of two things that I would like added: the ability to set a default page size and an expandable Shape Designer, the rest I think is really good. Agree it’...

Re: End of Life
Working on my first new composition in Dorico, I found some genuine niceties beyond what is immediately mentioned in videos, for example, and coming to this from Finale, these made me wish I had switched earlier (I had my reasons-tons of Finale files, lack of time to learn a new system, etc): Export...
