For some years I have been using Finale 2014 (on Windows 7) to provide scores for my singing group. I used to simply convert the MUSX file to an MUS, and send it as an email attachment. The singers could then open it in Finale Notepad for home practice.
I have had to get a new computer, running Windows 11, and am now using Finale 27.4.1.110. The newest MUS scores I have generated have all lost their noteheads, but will play on Notepad. The old MUS files are ok.
I have been around the Forum a little but can't find an easy fix. Should they upgrade their Notepads? Or download other fonts? Help please.

The new Finale uses new fonts; I suspect that's the problem. I don't believe there is a new version of Notepad. But when you create a new file in Finale 27, pick a "Legacy" document style and all should be well.

Finale Notepad is contemporary with Finale 2012, and therefore hasn't been updated for more than a decade.
  • It is not supported on Windows 11.
  • It has problems with hi-resolution displays.
  • It is isn't available for Mac.
  • It won't work with the new fonts in Finale 27.
MakeMusic will likely drop Notepad altogether at some point, in favour of their new web-based notation app, "Compose".

Realistically, you need to find a new method of distributing scores to your choir.

There is no “latest version” of NotePad. It stopped in 2012. It is only compatible with Windows XP, Vista, and 7, 8, and 10.

They have a new free web-based product called Make Music Compose. Details here: https://www.finalemusic.com/products/notepad/
