I'm trying to enter in a simple melody in 3/4 time in the key of Bb. In the measure that I'm having trouble with, the first beat has the Bb above middle C as a dotted half (so that it is held for the whole measure) and at the same time on the first beat I want the D above middle C to be played as a dotted quarter note as there are 3 other eighth notes to be played in that measure while the initial Bb is sustained. (The left hand for the bass clef is playing something else).
I have not been able to enter this in even with "Check for Extra notes on mouse entry" turned off. The tool keeps wanting my Bb above middle C to be a dotted quarter to match the D below it.
Does anyone know to enter in what I've described above? (Hopefully, I've described it adequately!)

Use Layer 1 and Layer 2.
Enter the upper line (with the B♭ dotted half) in Layer 1.
Enter the lower line (with the D dotted quarter and 3 eighths) in Layer 2.
Use Layer 1 and Layer 2.
Enter the upper line (with the B♭ dotted half) in Layer 1.
Enter the lower line (with the D dotted quarter and 3 eighths) in Layer 2.
