Recap And Summary Of the Virtual Machine Path Forward For Licensed Finale Owners

We’re going to get through this together. I’m operating on a couple assumptions:
(1) nobody is currently successfully running finale 26 or 27 on a virtual machine yet - otherwise please share your progress so other composers and transcribers don’t have to reinvent (or spin) the wheel.
(2) I know that AMD “special edition” 8gbram Lenovo ideapad windows 10 runs Finale v26 stably. I’m open to 27 but can’t personally vouch for it
(3) installing Finale on a virtual machine will allow finale to operate in perpetuity in its current perfectly stable state simulating conditions in #2 above)
(4) installing Finale on a virtual machine per above will indefinitely prolong said stable version to run as we as license holders are within our rights to do - the only barrier being the mechanical one of the wear and tear on any computer over time which would prevent us from using the software (I.e. the purpose is legal and intended for fellow licensees). I.e. we see around the marketing nonsense and are implementing this method to hedge against hostile de facto deactivation by MakeMusic/Peakware and Yamaha-Dorico on behalf of all end users
(5) the virtual machine must be capable of replicating specific peripheral and interface input-output functionality pertaining to audio and midi specifically, and PDF and other printing concerns.
(6) furthermore, in terms of legality, the destruction of Finale is ANTI-competitive and thus may be a violation of United States Antitrust law.

Most recently, I discovered this intro to setting up a virtual machine. I think this method is accessible to all users, and its learning curve is much less steep than learning any competing notation software.

I look forward to hearing other end-users’ ideas. Let’s unite behind the common goal of protecting accessibility to the art and science of music composition by preserving and protecting access to the legal and legitimate copies of Finale which remain, as well as our own great investments, of both time and money, in this singular and superior music notation software.

There is absolutely nothing anticompetitive about this. MakeMusic was not acquired. As the owners of Finale, MM has every right to discontinue development. No software company is obligated to develop software. You may want to read up on the FTC and what constitutes anticompetitive practices before making such claims.
