John Barron is doing yet another hour-long Discover Dorico session this Wednesday on Percussion and Drum Set notation.

(Normally, he does one a month, but this is the third in three weeks!)

Well, you're never going to get the best out of any software just by staring at the screen and clicking on stuff. I've personally found John's session very helpful in understanding concepts and workflows.

I know you've struggled with Dorico, but a lot of it is very straightforward, consistent and logical. Learning a few key things goes a long way.

Humility and a beginner's mindset are good attitudes to adopt at this stage.

My good friend, does that also mean that Finale users "need" the videos that have been graciously provided by folks like Jason Loffredo and are you perhaps implying that those people are somehow deficient?

I think there's enough snark in our political divide that we don't really need more snark here. I think we all get it-you're not happy with Dorico and the announcement about the longstanding reality that Finale is dead probably rocked your world. But you can still use Finale for probably many years, including all the plugins that make all things possible. So there's that...

I don't understand the put back. The fact Dorico needs to do more streaming vids is just a truth. It is nothing further. Sibelius has vids. Photoshop has vids and Finale had Jason. Folks coming from Finale need more Dorico vids because Dorico is so enigmatic and confusing (to Finale folks).

Remember that around the time of Finale 3.2, David Pogue came out with not one but three printed manuals for Finale. Each had a different purpose and all were organized differently. Dorico and other software could likely benefit from a series of detailed and well written PDFs like those old Finale manuals. The current Dorico manual is more like a reference guide but short on practical examples and graphics. That’s where Pogue’s manuals were very informative.
